Brainspotting
I love working with this modality for the relief it brings my clients, and for its effectiveness in accessing areas in our psyche that are hard to get to with talk therapy alone. Brainspotting is a remarkable therapy that helps get to the heart of the matter and can decrease anxiety, panic, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, limiting beliefs and other trauma symptoms. It helps increase emotional and physical regulation.
Based on the science that “where you look affects how you feel,” Brainspotting (BSP) helps us locate points in the visual field that allow us to access a wide range of emotional experiences in the mid and lower brain, where emotions, memories and trauma is stored. When we find the spot we want to work with, the client is asked to mindfully gaze at the spot and notice any somatic responses, memories, colors, etc., while the therapist carefully attunes to and witnesses the Cl’s process. The attunement of a safe, caring therapist along with the processing of material found with the spot creates an environment that is fertile for deep healing and new integration of the challenging experience that can bring a calmer response to triggers, and room for new thought patterns and perspectives.
Brainspotting can also be used to find and strengthen our natural resources and resilience. I offer 60 or 90 minute sessions as well as intensive experiences (several sessions within a week) for those who want an immersive, deep and more compact experience.
